What is the next destination for Pep Guardiola? That remains one of the biggest questions as we head to the new calendar year. The Bayern Munich manager has been heavily rumoured to be replacing Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City at the end of the season, but we might be in for a shock.
Daily Star has reported quoted a source close to the Spanish manager as saying that it isn't City that looks an attractive proposition. It is in fact their neighbours Manchester United that looks like a better destination for Guardiola.
"Pep always found the club [Manchester United] fascinating. He likes clubs with huge tradition and United certainly have this," the source told the newspaper.
"He [Guardiola] won't be short of options when it comes to deciding his next move, and Manchester City are an ambitious club. But United could still prove to be the more attractive proposition."
The report comes as a huge news for the Red Devils' fans, who are not just content with the way the team is performing this season. The fate of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford also hangs in the balance after recent results.
Having said that, Guardiola cannot immediately replace the Dutchman at the Theatre of Dreams, as he has said he will see through his contract until the end of the season with Bayern. In any case, if Guardiola ultimately turns out to be the next Manchester United manager, he can only be appointed next summer.
