Gaya, April 8 (ANI): People in Maoist-hit Gaya district of Bihar participated in 'run for vote' to create awareness among voters and urged civilians to exercise their franchise fearlessly. Participants asked people to turn out in huge numbers on voting day. Attacks in Maoist affected states increase before every election season, as the rebels are against the democratic exercise. Maoists threaten people to boycott elections and instill fear among rural people. The marathon saw participation of schoolchildren, college students, common people and activists, apart from government officials. The Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since the 1960s.
