Pelli Choopulu US box office collection: Vijay-Ritu's film grosses $1.22 million in 59 days

Pelli Choopulu has completed 50 days in some screens in North America and is making good collection at the US box office in ninth week, taking its gross total to $1.22 million in the country.

Pelli Choopulu, which clashed with new release Majnu in the country, has collected $803 from two screens at the US box office in its ninth weekend and its 59-day total gross collection has reached $1,223,544 (Rs 8.15 crore).

Pelli Choopulu is a romantic-comedy film featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in the lead roles. Made on shoe-string budget, the Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam-directed clashed with several big ticket movies including Junior NTR's Janatha Garage, but it has remained rock-steady at the ticket counters for nine weeks. Its performance has really surprised many in the Telugu film industry.

Big-ticket Telugu movies like Brahmotsavam featuring superstar Mahesh Babu and Sardaar Gabbar Singh featuring power star Pawan Kalyan struggled to surpass $1million mark at the US box office in 2016. They could not sustain in theatres for more than five weeks at the counters. However, Pelli Choopulu has generated a better collection than them and remained strong at the ticket counters in the country for long.
