Stella McCartney was joined by A-list sports and film stars to celebrate summer in an explosion of bright colours and graphic textures on 5 October for her latest Spring/Summer collection at Paris Fashion Week.
Lewis Hamilton, Maria Sharapova, Salma Hayek and MIA lined up under the gilded chandeliers of the Opera Garnier, although Stellas father Paul was a notable absentee.
The British designers latest collection fizzed with energy using tangy shades of yellow and green plastered over bold tablecloth checks and jaunty stripes. A series of pleated skirts and dresses hypnotised the audience with fluid shapes in contrasting colours creating an optical illusion.
McCartney enjoys experimenting with masculine tailoring and here the sleeves and backs were slashed on oversized blazers paired with wide-legged trousers in shades of pale pink, tan and black. Models were given room to breathe in floor-length citrus gowns opened up with tiny panels of see-through eyelet embroidery.
Summer footwear included sandals with sport-shoe soles and chunky platforms which, in true Stella style, were made from sustainable wood. McCartney said after the show that it was dedicated to inspiring women, with her playful colours and cuts empowering them to be who they want to be.
We all have these incredible women that fill us with motivation and allow us to be who we are and so this collection was sort of a tribute to them and their confidence and their incredible colour that they give off, she said.
Paris Fashion Week runs until 7 October with shows from Chanel, Valentino and Louis Vuitton still to come.
