The exhaustive fashion month may be coming to a close but guests checking in at Paris Cambon airport for Chanel Airlines this morning were certainly not heading home. Cara Delevingne and girlfriend St Vincent joined Lily Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis and Lewis Hamilton who were among the guests checking in for their CC class front-row seats at the Grand Palais for Chanels eagerly awaited Spring/Summer 16 show.
Never one to disappoint, creative director Karl Lagerfeld transformed the 18th Century palace into a luxury airport departure lounge, as guests were greeted with luggage trolleys and a check in desk before preparing for the show to take off.
The SS16 Chanel passengers entered the runway through Gate No 5 (of course) led by Edie Campbell and Kendall Jenner presenting not only a vast but intensely varied collection that provided something for every Chanel girl.
Never one to shy from a theme, Lagerfeld ensured aviation ran through every detail of the show. This ranged from silks emblazoned with departure lounge detailing and quilted luggage trolleys, right down to aeroplane pins and bejewelled safety buckle belts that sat neatly upon signature bouclé tweed and flyaway silks in a palette of blush rose, violet, lime and anthracite hues.
The designs moved seamlessly from the neat monochromatic suiting of the bygone Chanel traveller into the modern bohemian explorer and luxurious frequent flyer adorned in floral embellishment and bold prints. Traditional hounds-tooth skirt suits were updated with matching baseball caps and retro-futuristic footwear, turning chunky metallic platform sandals and light up flatforms into the new travel essentials for next season. An elegant nod to space-age travel and futurism could also be seen in the layered patent fabrics and metallic details as well as the bold blue shadowing across the models eyes.
Never one to miss the fun, Cara Delevingne joined Lagerfeld on the runway for the finalé, along with the designers godson Hudson Kroenig, who was modelling one of the most sophisticated flight attendant uniforms to date.
Paris Fashion Week concludes on 7 October.
