England and France fans united to sing the French national anthem La Marseillaise preceding an emotionally charged friendly football match between the two sides following the terrorist attacks on Paris in which 129 people lost their lives on 13 November.
The match is the first major public event since the killings on Friday, where one of the attacks involved a suicide bomb that went off just outside the Stade de France where France were playing a football match against Germany at the time.
Prince William, England manager Roy Hodgson and France manager Didier Deschamps laid floral tributes inside the technical area before the game, before the English, then French national anthems were performed, a reversal of usual tradition in which the hosts anthem is played last.
Fans from both sides could be heard singing along to the famous 1792 song, with the french lyrics to the anthem displayed on the TV screens at Wembley. Afterwards the two sides stood together to pose for a joint team photo, before standing in unison around the centre circle as a minutes silence was observed inside the stadium.
Whilst the French FA decided to proceed ahead with the football match, others international games have been called off in the wake of the terror attacks. An international friendly between Belgium and Spain in Brussels was called off over security fears and the planned match between Germany and Holland in Hannover was cancelled less than two hours before kick-off because of a concrete security threat against the city.
