A blindfolded man identifying himself as a Muslim offered hugs of empathy and trust on Monday (16 November) to mourners at a vigil for the Paris attacks.
Media reports say the man held a placard proclaiming: Im a Muslim and Im told Im a terrorist. I trust you, do you trust me? If yes, hug me? He was standing near the Place de la Republique in the city centre.
Video of the exchanges in the citys Republic Square went viral on social media websites. Afterwards the man, who has not been identified, lifted up his blindfold and said: I would like to thank every one of you for giving me a hug.
I did this to send a message to everyone. Im a Muslim, but that doesnt make me a terrorist -- I never killed anyone, he said.
Last Friday was my birthday, but I didnt go out. I feel deeply for all the victims families, he added.
