The Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Pakistani woman intruder at around 3 am on Monday at the Bariyala post in the Gurdaspur sector of Punjab. She was shot dead by the 120 Batallion of the BSF after soldiers noticed suspicious movement along the India-Pakistan border.
"The woman, aged nearly 60 years, was challenged and asked to stop, but when she continued to march towards the Indian territory, she was shot at, resulting in her death," a senior BSF official told the Hindu. He added that the woman's face was covered when she was shot at, and that the BSF jawans were not aware it was a female intruder.
The official also said the BSF got in touch with their counterparts in Pakistan and also conducted a search operation in the area.
This is the second time in two months an intruder from Pakistan has been shot dead by the BSF. In March this year, the BSF had shot dead a Pakistani intruder who was trying to infiltrate into India at Gurdaspur along the international border.
Indian Army had also apprehended a 12-year-old boy from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) last month after he crossed over to the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC).
"A patrol of the Indian Army along the LoC apprehended a 12-year-old intruder from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir PoK who had crossed over to this side of LoC late last evening in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district," the defence spokesperson had said back then.
