Chand Nawab, the Pakistani reporter best known for a viral video clip of his unintentionally hilarious reporting, which was even emulated in the hit Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, was reportedly beaten up by police officers in Karachi.
Nawab, who works as a reporter with a local TV channel, had reportedly arrived at the Karachi Cantt Station to report on the alleged scalping of tickets, and was beaten up along with his crew member by railway officials and the police, Pakistan's ARY News reported.
The video of Chand Nawab being beaten up went viral on social media, and became a trending topic on twitter in Pakistan on Tuesday. Several netizens expressed anger at the authorities for the treatment of the popular TV reporter.
Chand Nawab became an Internet sensation six years ago when some of his colleagues from a TV channel had uploaded a video showing him recording a piece-to-camera at a railway station as people left for Eid holidays. The video showed Nawab being constantly interrupted by commuters walking across the camera, forcing him to repeat the same line several times.
The video also inspired a character in the Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, in which actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the character of Chand Nawab in a similar setting as seen in the viral video.
