Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavati recently went on floors with Deepika Padukone. And now Shahid Kapoor has joined the crew. Shahid will essay the role of Rani Padmavati's husband, Raja Ratan Singh of Chittor.
On Thursday, Shahid took to his Instagram page to announce the development to his fans. "Day 1. #padmavati wish me luck guys," he posted along with a photo of his.
Padmavati will see Deepika as queen of Chittor, Rani Padmavati, while Ranveer Singh will be seen as ruler Alauddin Khilji, which is a negative role. The film is also said to star Aditi Rao Hydari in a key role. The actress will play Kamala Devi, one of Khilji's favourite wives.
The team had a tough time shooting the first sequence with Deepika. It was a dance sequence — the Rajasthani folk dance, Ghoomar — and the actress struggled to get her moves right. The traditional dance form requires one to move round in circles. As Deepika was wearing heavy costume and jewellery, she found it difficult to coordinate with the background dancers, SpotboyE reported.
It was also said that the Bajirao Mastani actress was preparing for her character by reading historical books related to the Rajputana era. Padmavati was in news for a long time due to several factors: ego clashes between actors Ranveer and Shahid, and their issues with the script, movie posters and screen space.
