Vijay Sethupathi-starrer "Sethupathi" has performed well at the US box office, while "Miruthan" has done good business in Malaysia and a few other international centres.
In its opening weekend, "Sethupathi" collected Rs 35.01 lakh from 35 screens in the US, reports Bollywood Hungama. But it failed to beat the record of Vijay Sethupathi's previous movie "Naanum Rowdydhaan," which had minted Rs 1.16 crore from 37 screens.
Surprisingly, Jayam Ravi starrer "Miruthan," which has dominated "Sethupathi" in most of the centres, has not done impressive business in the US. From 35 screens, the Tamil flick has raked in Rs 16.38 lakh.
In the UK box office, "Miruthan" has performed better than "Sethupathi" by earning Rs 14.38 lakh from 29 screens while Vijay Sethupathi-starrer collected Rs 8.44 lakh from just eight screens.
Jayam Ravi's movie has raked in Rs 12.80 lakh in Australia, whereas "Sethupathi" could only collect Rs 4.67 lakh. Among the international centres, it is Malaysia where "Miruthan" has come out with flying colours. The film has collected Rs 33.39 lakh from 22 screens, but Vijay Sethupathi-starrer has failed to do notable business here.
Domestic Box Office
Jayam Ravi's "Miruthan" has collected about Rs 8 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office in its opening weekend and raked in close to Rs 1.2 crore in Chennai alone. On the other hand, "Sethupathi" has earned Rs 3.5 crore in the state and about 70 lakh in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
"Miruthan" is credited as the first Zombie film made in Kollywood. This is the prime attraction of the film. Jayam Ravi's performance and good story are the other highlights. "Sethupathi' is a cop story, in which Vijay Sethupathi's fantastic screen presence backed by interesting narration has attracted the viewers.
Both the new Tamil films have garnered rave reviews and are expected to do well in the coming days.
