A teenage girl in London has been arrested after a video of her attacking an 80-year-old Sikh man on the streets in Coventry, UK, went viral.
In the video, the British girl is seen kicking and punching the elderly man in front of passers-by before pushing him to the ground. She also knocked off his turban and spitted on his face before walking off.
Later, a man came rushed over to help the victim after the girl and her companions walked away. The assault, which appears to be unprovoked, happened in daylight near a bus station in Trinity Street, Coventry, on 10 August.
The victim, who sustained a nose injury and swollen eye, was taken to hospital after the attack.
West Midlands Police using images and video footage of the incident are investigating the attack. They have arrested the 19-year-old girl from Gloucester and are questioning her.
Police are treating this "serious malicious wounding" as an offence which is punishable with a maximum penalty up to five years in jail, according to Mirror News.
"This was a despicable, violent attack on an elderly man in broad daylight. The victim is an 80-year-old man - he was left with a bloodied nose and a black eye," Coventry Police chief superintendent Andy Nicholson told The Coventry Telegraph.
"A video showing the assault spread rapidly on social media and quite rightly the offender's actions are being condemned by everyone who's viewed it."
The video which went viral on social networking sites has garnered criticism from viewers.
