"Outlander" will soon be back on the television screens. After, enthralling the fans with the passionate love story of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser in the first half of its freshman season, the path-breaking British-American drama will present the fans with 13 riveting episodes.
Warning: Spoiler Ahead
The second episode of "Outlander" Season 1 Part 2 will feature a heart-breaking scene involving a baby. Balfe is set to star in the distressing scene.
"Look for some of Caitriona Balfe's best work yet," added Kristin Das Santos of Eonline.
The baby does not belong to Balfe's character Claire Randall. In addition to the baby scene, the new episodes will have a controversial scene, showing Fraser (Sam Heughan) punishing Randall by spanking her back.
"Jamie, whether he believes it is the right thing to do or not, it's what he has to do to teach her a lesson. That was how he's been brought up. They both learn a lesson about the relationship. It strengthens their relationship and moves it forward," Heughan told Yahoo.
Balfe further revealed that before enacting the part she and Heughan met numerous times to discuss it. The scene has been handled with care keeping the audience's sensitivity in mind.
"We wanted to not take it lightly and to approach it very respectfully," said Balfe. Spanking was reportedly a justified form of punishment in 1743 and the actress expects that fans should not watch it from a modern perspective.
"Outlander" is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon. It revolves around the story of a nurse who travels back in time and encounters a civil war. She falls in love with a Highland warrior Fraser.
The series will air on TV in April 2015.
