The 88th Annual Academy Awards, held on Feb. 28 at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles was a resplendent evening. The biggest stars of Hollywood descended on the red carpet, embracing the latest in fashion. Heidi Klum and Rachel McAdams shone as they made their entry into the venue.
Although Oscars 2016 was one of the most anticipated evenings of this year, the award show was clouded by many controversies, most prominent of them being the lack of diversity in nominations. The #OscarSoWhite allegation was not missed by host Chris Rock, who heckled the audience by saying, "Is Hollywood racist? You're damn right Hollywood's racist."
Rock's opening monologue at the award ceremony was certainly one of the most hilarious yet poignant speeches of all times, and one that will be remembered for years to come. While Rock's speech surprised the audiences, it wasn't the only thing that managed to shock them.
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar for best actor for his role in "The Revenant." The Alejandro González Iñárritu directed film took home second highest awards for categories such as best director and best cinematography. However, "Mad Max: Fury Road" proved to be the biggest winner at the 88th Annual Academy Awards. The Australian director-producer George Miller's film won six out of the ten categories it was nominated for.
