Leonardo DiCaprio has been tipped to win at the 88th Academy Awards by Kate Winslet. Winslet said she would be surprised if DiCaprio did not win this years best actor Oscar.
She said it is probably going to be Leos year at the Academy Awards that take place in Hollywood on 28 February. You can sort of feel it and I think everyone wants it for him, the 40-year-old actress said of her Titanic co-star.
It would be amazing, Winslet added as she spoke on the red carpet at the 36th London Critics Circle Film Awards at the citys May Fair Hotel, according to AFP.
DiCaprio, 41, who recently won the best actor award at the Golden Globes 2016 for The Revenant, has yet to win an Oscar though he has been nominated five times. The Revenant has 12 Oscar nominations, including DiCaprios in the best actor category which is his sixth Oscar nomination.
Winslet, who herself won the supporting actress of the year award for Steve Jobs at Londons award gala, said DiCaprio faces tough competition from the biopics actor Michael Fassbender.
Its also quite difficult for me too because Michael Fassbender is also nominated and I was his right hand woman for three months making Steve Jobs, she said. I saw how hard he worked and I thought his performance was extraordinary.
But I think you can feel the temperature and its probably going to be Leos year, Winslet reiterated.
DiCaprio, who lost out to veteran actor Tom Courtenay for his role in 45 Years at the London Critics Circle Film Awards, has revealed that The Revenant was his toughest role to date. The actor has been nominated alongside Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Fassbender (Steve Jobs) and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) for the 2016 Oscars.
