Indians who were expecting to see AR Rahman bagging his third Oscar award will be disappointed as his name didn't appear in the final nominations of 87th Academy Awards that was announced on Thursday, 15 December.
Even though the music maestro made it to the list of 114 probables in the best original score category in the Oscar 2015 nomination list, he is no more a contender.
Rahman's four compositions -- three from "Million Dollar Arm" and one from "The Hundred-Foot Journey" -- were earlier nominated for the prestigious award in the Original Song category. He was also nominated for "Million Dollar Arm", "The Hundred-Foot Journey" and Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" in the Original Score category.
Singer Sonu Nigam and musician Bickram Ghosh, who were nominated for their compositions for the Indian film "Jal", are also out of the Oscar race in the Original Score category.
The Bollywood drama film "Jal" also couldn't find a spot in the Best Picture category nomination list. Earlier, Geethu Mohandas' "Liar's Dice", starring Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, also failed to qualify in the Foreign Language Film category list.
The winners of the 87th Academy Awards will be announced on Sunday, 22 February, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and Highland Center.
