Oppo unveiled the all-new R7s smartphone with notable specifications during the GETIX (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition) 2015 in Dubai, UAE, to compete with similar handsets garnering consumer attention. With the specifications it offers, Oppo R7s is targeting some of the industry's best sellers such as Xiaomi Mi 4i, Asus Zenfone 2, OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and others. Here's a suitable comparison of the Oppo smartphones with its rivals that will bring a closure for those who are looking to buy the handset.
In this article, we are going to see how Oppo R7s fares against Xiaomi Mi 4i and Asus Zenfone 2.
Display and design
Oppo R7s takes cues from the industry's leading premium phones and its own siblings in terms of design. Clad inside a good-looking metal body, Oppo R7s features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 2.5D glass to offer a comfortable grip.
Comparatively, Xiaomi Mi 4i offers a slightly smaller 5 inch display with Full HD resolution. The handset's design is in line with other Mi phones that offer a light and plastic body. The Mi 4i sports unique properties such as Sunlight display, 178-degree viewing angle, JDI screen protection and 200,000 pixels.
Asus Zenfone 2 has Oppo-like 5.5-inch screen with Full HD resolution, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, 178-degree viewing angle and plastic built. Unlike Xiaomi Mi 4i, Asus Zenfone 2 has a shiny brushed metal finish and a curvy back to make it look more appealing.
In terms of design, Oppo R7 remained our favourite with its metal cladding but Zenfone 2 offers a decent quality with its unique styling cues. XIaomi Mi 4i has a more standard approach. All three phones have similar displays and resolution, so nothing much is on the stake if you are looking for the clarity of videos and photos.
Under the hood
Under the challenging circumstances, all smartphone makers are bound to pack better performance. Oppo R7s is powered by a Qualcomm's 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor clocking speeds at 1.5GHz and backed by 4GB RAM. The handset packs 32GB onboard storage that can be expanded using microSD cards.
Xiaomi Mi 4i also has a similar processor, powered by second-gen 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with Cortex-A53 cores clocking speeds at 1.7 GHz and the other four at 1.1 GHz. To support the chipset, there is a 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard memory.
Finally, the Asus Zenfone 2 battles with its 64-bit 2.3GHz Intel Atom processor. Additionally, the handset comes in different configurations and one in this comparison sports 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB memory.
Clearly, Oppo R7s and Asus Zenfone 2 offer better performance compared to Xiaomi Mi 4i.
Camera
Oppo R7s offers a 13-megapixel camera with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), f/2.2 aperture, Full HD recording, LED flash and Pure Image 2.0 app. There is an 8MP front-facing camera found on the Oppo R7s, which has an f/2.4 aperture.
Xiaomi Mi 4i and Asus Zenfone 2 also pack similar 13 megapixel cameras for primary shooting with LED flash. The front camera, however, features a 5-megapixel sensor.
Battery
Oppo R7s is powered by a 3,000mAh battery with VOOC flash charging tech, same as Zenfone 2 without VOOC. Xiaomi Mi 4i packs slightly bigger 3,120mAh battery.
Verdict
Oppo R7s and Asus Zenfone 2 come close in terms of performance while Xiaomi Mi 4i has a better attraction towards budget shoppers with a lower price tag. Oppo is yet to release the pricing of its R7s and the Zenfone 2 has a price tag of Rs. 19,999. Xiaomi Mi 4i is a sub-Rs. 15,000 smartphone.
The shortcomings of the XIaomi Mi 4i can be justified by its price tag but those who are willing to spend a little extra can go with Oppo or Asus smartphones. Oppo R7s is a more recent and premium-looking device, thanks to the metal cladding. All specifications are almost identical in both phones.
