Smartphone trends are always changing and it seemed to have paused for a quick selfie. Demand for great cameras in phones has forced OEMs to come up with new technologies, such as dual lenses, to impress users. For most part, it appears to be doing the trick.
OPPO and Vivo are two key players in the smartphone market, trying to take out each other by offering the best selfie smartphones. The most recent premium releases by both the tech giants were OPPO F3 Plus and Vivo V5 Plus, which promise to give you the best selfies.
We had the chance to review both phones, and it's only fair to compare their best features out in the open. We took out Vivo V5 Plus and OPPO F3 Plus for a side-by-side comparison, and both the handsets have their strengths.
Let's start with OPPO F3 Plus. In our review, we had mentioned how F3 Plus finds a unique way to put the dual cameras to use. Instead of doing what everyone else is, OPPO decided to address on the main pressing points of taking a selfies, or should we say 'groufies.'
In our view, F3 Plus really beats the Vivo smartphone with its wide angle selfie camera feature. Taking group selfies has never been easier. Even if you are not in a group, the wide angle dual lens in the front of the phone lets you capture the background in all of its glory. That's worth something while you're on your next trip to Paris or Egypt and you want to capture those beautiful landscapes without stretching out too much.
The wide-angle coverage in F3 Plus is just one of many features. It has beauty mode, panorama, and most notably a Bokeh effect feature to blur background. We must say it does a decent job in blurring the background, and we are saying this after spending quite a lot of time using iPhone 7 Plus' Portrait mode. Nevertheless, it's a good add-on feature to have.
Now, moving on to the rival Vivo V5 Plus, we have some good things to talk about it as well. In fact, the dual lens selfie camera in V5 Plus is different than the one in OPPO F3 Plus. While OPPO has taken a wide-angle lens, Vivo has decided to go with capturing the depth and detail.
Vivo's DSLR-like Bokeh effect is its strongest feature, and it comes very close to iPhone 7 Plus, we must say.
In case you are curious, the camera specifications of both the phones are given below:
OPPO F3 Plus
F3 Plus has two lenses, 16MP and 8MP with 120-degree wide-angle, at the front. There's a flash to give you enough light in low-light conditions. On the rear, the phone has a 16MP shooter with f/1.7 aperture, dual PDAF, 1.4um big Pixel Resolution. Check out some sample shots below:
Vivo V5 Plus
On the other hand, V5 Plus packs a 20MP and 8MP dual lens setup in the front, which creates a solid depth-of-field effect to keep the focus sharp and smartly outlining the subject using enhanced digital optical algorithms for an ideal Bokeh effect. There's a moonlight selfie flash for those late-night selfies as well. On the rear, V5 Plus packs a 16MP shooter.
In comparison, we found that the rear camera in OPPO F3 Plus is capable of capturing details better than Vivo V5 Plus. But in broad daylight, both handsets excel. Below are some sample shots.
OPPO F3 Plus vs Vivo V5 Plus rear camera comparison:
Verdict
OPPO F3 Plus and Vivo V5 Plus are both great phones with their own strengths. The rear camera performance is slightly better in F3 Plus. In terms of selfies, V5 Plus walks away good details and the precise Bokeh effect. OPPO F3 Plus is unique in its own way as it brings something the V5 Plus lacks entirely. F3 Plus has the best wide-angle coverage in a selfie, and a decent Bokeh effect feature to fulfil your need for any type of selfie.
