Update: This article has been updated to include the official price, availability and specification details about the F1 Plus in India.
Oppo launched its new F1 Plus smartphone in India Tuesday, succeeding its affordable F1 smartphone. The new premium smartphone has several upgrades over the current model, ranging from an upgraded selfie camera to enhanced security via a fingerprint scanner.
Both Oppo handsets are touted as "selfie experts," catering to the growing selfie trend in India, which is one of the strong USPs for smartphones. According to the company's global VP Sky Li, good camera and battery are two major features that influence an Indian consumer's buying decision.
Here's a comparison of Oppo F1 and F1 Plus for those who are confused between the two.
Display and design
Both Oppo F1 and F1 Plus boast metallic bodies with almost identical designs. The F1 sports a 5-inch HD display with 2.5F Gorilla Glass 4 protection and 294ppi. The F1 Plus is slightly bigger, measuring 5.5 inches diagonally, and has the same Gorilla Glass 4 shield with increased Full-HD screen resolution and 401ppi.
Camera
Camera being one of the top features in both Oppo F1 and F1 Plus, buyers won't have to settle for less. The F1 smartphone sports a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and an 8MP front-snapper with bigger f/2.0 aperture and a ¼-inch sensor. The selfie camera is equipped with Beautify v3.0 tool and software to brighten display to bring out a flash-like effect while taking a selfie.
The F1 Plus has the same 13MP primary camera with LED flash as seen in the F1 smartphone. But the company has enhanced its selfie capabilities with a 16MP Hi-Light front camera with 120-degree wide-angle lens, PDAF, ISOCELL technology and f/2.0 aperture.
Users can feel the difference in the F1 Plus while the F1 smartphone also offers a comparably decent quality. We reserve our final verdict until the hands-on comparison of both handsets.
Battery
Battery is another important feature in the new smartphones, and comes with Oppo's proprietary VOOC flash charge technology. The smaller F1 smartphone has a 2,500mAh battery with Super Save Battery option to extend the handset's runtime. The F1 Plus sports a bigger 2,850mAh battery with most likely to have the same battery-saver option as the F1.
Under the hood
Oppo F1 is powered by a 64-bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 Octa-core CPU with Adreno 405 GPU for graphics and 3GB RAM. The F1 Plus has a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) processor, backed by 4GB RAM.
On the storage front, the F1 has 16GB onboard memory, expandable up to 128GB, while the F1 Plus offers 64GB expandable storage. Both phones run Android 5.1 Lollipop-based ColorOS 3.1 and have 4G LTE support with room for two SIM cards.
Fingerprint scanner
Oppo F1 Plus sports a fingerprint scanner, which has been integrated with its Home button. It is one of the key features sets it apart from the F1 smartphone.
Price and availability
Oppo F1 is available in the market for Rs. 15,990, while the F1 Plus will be available mid-April for Rs 26,990.
Conclusion
Oppo F1 Plus is certainly a notable upgrade over the F1, complete with a fingerprint scanner, better display, improved selfie camera, bigger battery and enhanced performance. However, it's worth noting that these upgrades come at a cost, which is a price difference of almost Rs 10,000. Depending on your budget, Oppo F1 is a viable choice for within Rs 20,000 while the F1 Plus offers a much more premium experience.
