Oppo is hosting an event in India April 5, when it is expected to launch the F1 Plus smartphone, which succeeds the company's widely-popular selfie expert F1 smartphone. After numerous reports speculating the launch of the R9 and R9 Plus in India Tuesday, Oppo clarified that the F1 Plus is an international variant of the R9 smartphone, which was launched in China last month.
The Chinese smartphone maker has sent out media invites to the press for its upcoming event, which is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The invite is titled "Selfie Expert+," which indicates the handset might be called Oppo F1 Plus.
Oppo has been teasing the handset's release on its official Facebook page for days, but it updated its profile with a new image confirming F1 Plus' official name and its full image. Previous teasers have highlighted some of the key features of the F1 Plus, such as fingerprint scanner, rapid charging technology and ultra-slim bezels.
After the company's clarification about the F1 Plus, the specifications of the handset are quite clear. Oppo F1 Plus will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with ultra slim bezels measuring just 1.66mm on the sides. The handset's design draws close resemblance to the iPhone 6 and 6s models, but Oppo has made some changes to add unique touch wherever necessary.
Other specifications include an impressive 16-megapixel front-facing camera with 78.1-degree wide-angle lens, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture, a 13MP rear snapper with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture, fingerprint scanner integrated within the Home button of the phone and a 2,850mAh battery with VOOC flash charge technology.
The F1 Plus will be powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) processor, 4GB RAM and offer 64GB storage. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop-based ColorOS 3.0 and includes 4G LTE and dual SIM support.
While the entire spec-sheet is pretty much official, the handset's pricing remain under the wraps. If the rumours are to be believed, the F1 Plus will be priced higher than the F1 (Rs. 15,990) at around Rs. 26,990. Let there be little suspense reserved for the upcoming event.
