Mohanlal's Oppam is heading towards earning a 'super hit' status at the Kerala box office. After getting an earth-shattering opening, the Malayalam film is looking forward to doing good business in its second weekend.
Oppam was released on Sept. 8 in over 100 screens in Kerala. The makers had publicised the film well and the performance of the movie lived up to their expectations in the first weekend.
The Mohanlal-starrer minted Rs 1.56 crore on the opening day. The good advance booking ensured to give a great opening at the collection centres. The trade experts were predicting the collection of "Oppam" to witness a drop on its second day. But surprisingly, the business saw a growth of over 13 per cent as the film raked in Rs 1.77 crore.
The business of Oppam saw a close to seven per cent growth on its third day as it registered a collection of Rs 1.89 crore. The Priyadarshan-directorial came out with flying colours on Sunday as family audience thronged into theatres in big numbers.
Oppam minted Rs 2.03 crore to take its first weekend total to Rs 7.25 crore. After a dream start, it added over Rs 5 crore to its tally in the next four days to end its first-week collection at Rs 12.6 crore.
Trade reports say that the film made a decent collection on Friday and it is likely to perform well on Saturday and Sunday. The film is expected to easily cross Rs 15 crore by the end of its second weekend.
Meanwhile, the success of the flick is paving way for its remake in other languages. Rumours are rife that Kamal Haasan and Akshay Kumar are likely to be part of the Tamil and Hindi remakes, respectively.
