Mohanlal's "Oppam" has struck gold at the box office. The Malayalam movie, which has been released as an Onam treat to the Malayali audience, has also become the highest first-week grosser at the Kerala box office by beating Nivin Pauly's "Premam," which had reportedly earned Rs. 10.4 crore.

The movie was released in 100 screens on Sep. 8 (Thursday) and the movie registered a fantastic opening by earning Rs. 1.56 crore on the first day. The good word-of-mouth boosted the collection on the second day as it ended up collecting Rs. 1.77 crore.
The collection improved further on Saturday as the movie raked in Rs. 1.89 crore. "Oppam" registered its best performance on Sunday by minting Rs. 2.03 crore to take its first weekend total tally to Rs. 7.25 crore with a distributor share of Rs. 3.45 crore.
In the next three days, "Oppam" raked in Rs. 5.35 crore to take its first week total to Rs. 12.6 crore.
Meanwhile, the success of "Oppam" is paving way for its remake in other languages. Kamal Haasan is likely to star in the Tamil remake and the latest post by Samuthirakani, who has played an important role in the Mohanlal-starrer, has confirmed it.
He wrote,"Very happy & proud to be part of #Oppam super happy with the success!! Heard #Ulaganayagan going to remake in #Tamil. God gifted recognition on this great day!!Happy Onam!!!God bless!!!! [sic]"
