Superstar Mohanlal's much-awaited movie, "Oppam," is set to hit the screens in Kerala on Thursday, Sept. 8. It is the first Malayalam-only release of the actor in 2016, after the multi-lingual projects, "Manamantha" and "Janatha Garage."

5 reasons to watch "Oppam"

Mohanlal as a blind man

For the first time in his acting career spanning 36 years, Mohanlal will be seen playing the role of a blind man throughout a film. The versatile actor has earlier played a visually challenged man for a short time in director Rajiv Anchal's Malayalam movie, "Guru," which was selected as India's official entry to the Best Foreign Film category at the 70th Oscars.

Priyadarshan's crime thriller

Priyadarshan is known for his movies in the comedy genre, although his outings with thrillers have been accepted by the audience in the films, "No.20 Madras Mail" and "Nirnayam," among others. Though his movies over the past few years have failed to make a mark at the box office, the upcoming Mohanlal-starrer, said to be a crime thriller, is likely to bring back the good old feeling.

Mohanlal-Priyadarshan combo

The major highlight of "Oppam" is the association of Mohanlal and Priyadarshan, who have delivered many superhits movies in Malayalam. Some of the hit films of the duo include "Thalavattam," Kilukkam," Chithram," Thenmavin Kombath," "Aryan," "Adwaitham," "Kaalapani" and "Chandralekha," among many others, which rocked the box office for more than 100 days. "Oppam" marks the reunion of the actor-director team after three years. Their previous outing "Geethanjali" had turned out to be a disaster at the box office.

Thrilling trailer and ensemble cast

The one-minute 46-second trailer of the thriller, edited by "Premam" director Alphonse Puthren, has opened to a positive response from viewers, who have tagged it as thrilling. It has become one of the most viewed trailers, with more than 1 million views on the YouTube page of Aashirvad Cinemas. The movie is likely to see the notable performance of Mohanlal, Baby Meenakshi, Nedumudi Venu, Chemban Vinod, Vimala Raman, Renji Panicker and Anusree, among others.

Songs - Back to Ooty

With the release of the video song "Minungum Minnaminuge," featuring Mohanlal and Baby Meenakshi, the audience got a glimpse of Ooty, which was the prime location of the actor-director duo's blockbuster movie "Kilukkam," which also stars Revathy, Thilakan and Innocent in the key roles. The song, sung by MG Sreekumar and Shreya Jayadeep, has impressed the audience and has been viewed more than seven lakh times, at the time of reporting.

"Oppam" is scheduled to hit the screens in Kerala on Sept. 8, locking horns with Prithviraj Sukumaran's revenge thriller "Oozham," directed by Jeethu Joseph of "Drishyam" fame.
