OnePlus has made its affordable mid-range smartphone, OnePlus X, available without invites everywhere, but it is yet to apply the invite-free model in India. The company also revised the price of its OnePlus Power Bank in the international markets from $14.99 to $19 due to increased costs in manufacturing and operations.
OnePlus X was available without invites on every Tuesday, but the latest change makes it easier for shoppers to purchase the handset without any hurdles. On the company's forum, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei expressed his excitement in making OnePlus X "completely invite-free" sooner than any other models in its portfolio.
"We're extremely excited to be making the OnePlus X invite-free more quickly this time. With every device we release, we grow more mature and more adept at handling the demands and expectations of our community. We owe our success largely to your unrelenting support, so we hope this development will make the process of purchasing your very own OnePlus X as smooth and effortless as it can possibly be," Pei wrote on Thursday.
According to Pei, OnePlus dropped the necessity for an invite to purchase OnePlus 2 around four months after launch, but it managed to pull down the invite system for its OnePlus X in "even less time".
In India, buyers are still required to get an invite to purchase OnePlus X from Amazon India. The company hosted the first open sale in India for OnePlus X in December, but also tied up with Ola to deliver OnePlus X without invites. The arrival of invite-free OnePlus X in India is imminent, but there is no specific time frame.
Pei said the price hike on the OnePlus Power Bank takes effect in a week, which means buyers can get the old price if they act soon. Also, OnePlus X and OnePlus 2 cases and covers are available at 20% off.
OnePlus X was launched in Onyx and Ceramic variants and the company recently added the white colour to the Onyx model in India. OnePlus X Onyx is priced at Rs 16,999 and the Ceramic version costs Rs 22,999.
