For long, OnePlus fans have been on the lookout for their share of Android Lollipop-based OxygenOS and CM12S updates for worthy OnePlus One smartphones. The unexpected delay has triggered impatience among users.
Now, the Chinese phone maker has come forward with a final release date for both Oxygen OS as well as CM12S. Thankfully, the wait is not much longer and OnePlus is undertaking personal guarantee to deliver on its promise.
According to OnePlus blog post, Android 5.0 Lollipop based CM 12S for One smartphones will be rolled out over-the-air on or before 30 March.
In India, where CM 12S rollout will be barred, OnePlus One owners will be treated with company's home-grown OxygenOS ROM based on Android Lollipop. The OxygenOS will be rolled out earlier than CM 12S, on or before Friday, 27 March.
After postponing the software release more than once in the past, OnePlus wants to assure its fans that it will not miss the deadline this time.
"To show you how serious we are about this commitment to our community, we are prepared to put our money where our mouth is. If we miss either one of these deadlines, we will give away five (5) 64GB OnePlus One devices to our fans," Brandon H, one of the administrators of the OnePlus forum, wrote.
The winners will be randomly selected by OnePlus. To participate, just comment on the OnePlus thread.
OnePlus also highlighted some obstacles the company had to face during the development of Android Lollipop based software. According to the company, OnePlus fixed OS signing issue, camera stability and some glitches with the Wi-Fi drivers to bring bug-free user-experience at launch.
"Admittedly, it took a little more time than we had planned, but we only release updates that we are proud of; that means refusing to take shortcuts or deliver sub-par experiences," Brandon added.
If you are impressed with OnePlus work-style and have been planning to buy the OnePlus One for a while, the handset will be available without invites for one day tomorrow, 24 March. The smartphone sells exclusively via Amazon in India for Rs 21,990 and Rs 18,990 for 64GB and 16GB variants, respectively.
