OnePlus has come a long way since it started out in 2014, from being a start-up to a successful premium smartphone brand. The company's success formula has been disrupting the premium space and sticking to launching one flagship a year. But that changed in 2016 when the company started launching upgraded versions of its flagships in the same year by adding the letter "T" to its smartphones as in the case of OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5T.
Ever since, the significance of "T" has grown fonder among consumers and this year isn't going to be any different. While OnePlus 6 has got a lot of love from consumers and critics alike, OnePlus 6T is still going to strike a chord among consumers. While we wait for the new flagship to arrive, here are answers to all the questions you've all been asking.
OnePlus 6T release date
After a lot of confusion about OnePlus launching the T-variant of its OnePlus 6 or not, there is more evidence to support its imminent arrival. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had said in an interview earlier this year that the company will launch OnePlus 6T only if there's something new to offer, but a statement on OnePlus forum confirmed that the upgraded variant "will be out in coming months."
Based on previous launches, it is not too odd to assume that the OnePlus 6T will arrive in November ahead of the big holiday season. So this Christmas you'll have a "killer" gift choice for your partner or even yourself.
OnePlus 6T Key upgrades
OnePlus 6T might be arriving this year, but the biggest question is should buyers stay clear of OnePlus 6 for now and directly go for the 6T. Well, as we noted in our review, OnePlus 6 is your safest bet for a smartphone under Rs 40,000, but it also makes sense to wait a few more months just to get an upgraded variant for almost the same price.
OnePlus 6 is a killer device, but the whole purpose of launching the 6T is to tap on the latest trends that the current model lacked. It's all a big mystery as to what OnePlus has in mind for 6T, but rumours are rife about the unannounced phone's details. Based on those rumours, here's what we expect to see in the OnePlus 6T:
- 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 6
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset
- 6GB/8GB RAM
- 64GB/128GB/256GB storage
- 3,300mAh battery with Dash Charge
- Android Pie-powered OxygenOS
- Dual rear cameras with upgraded sensors
- 5G ready
What we hope to see in OnePlus 6T
OnePlus is synonymous with disruption, and true disruption will come by acquiring the top-notch features available in the market. If you ask us, OnePlus 6T should have two main features, which we've already seen in phones like Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex.
The first one is naturally the full-screen display with elevating cameras. This is one feature that has the world stunned is how OPPO and Vivo managed to get rid of the notch completely and offer the highest screen-to-body ratio. Will OnePlus do it? We sure hope so.
The next feature we are so eager to see in the OnePlus 6T is the in-display fingerprint scanner. Vivo did it in the Nex and X21 and we hope being under the same parent company as its rival pays off this time.
As much as we hope to see these two breakthrough features make the cut in the OnePlus 6T, we are equally skeptical. It makes sense for OnePlus to reserve these upgrades for OnePlus 7 just so it doesn't disappoint OnePlus 6 buyers, but who's to stop the brand that grew multiple folds with its commitment to bring the best available tech to consumers.
Never settle?
