OnePlus is getting back in the game ahead of the most-awaited launch of its 2016 flagship OnePlus 3 this year. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, known for its disruptive nature, is setting up the virtual stage for the OnePlus 3 release and offering the front-row seats to witness the launch via its specially designed Loop VR headsets.
After holding the first-ever VR launch event for OnePlus 2 last year using Google Cardboard headsets, the company is going a step further this time for the launch of OnePlus 3. The Loop VR headsets, co-developed by AntVR, will not only let fans watch the unveiling of the 2016 flagship, but it will also bring the world's first global shopping experience in virtual reality.
"In 2016, the OnePlus 3 launch will be the world's first global shopping experience in VR," OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said in an official blog post on Monday. "Visitors to The Loop will be able to order the OnePlus 3 before anyone else, in VR."
OnePlus is making 30,000 units of its Loop VR headsets available to fans for free. There will be standard shipping charges, but the headset's quality and comfort makes it all worthwhile. In order to get the free Loop VR headset, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Go to OnePlus Loop VR page
Step 2: Click on "Claim" at the bottom of the page
Step 3: Select "Add to cart" and "Checkout" when prompted
Step 4: Enter shipping address, shipping and payment methods and place the order
The main Loop VR webpage directs you to the U.S. site, but you will need to change the location before placing a successful order. For those in the U.K. follow the OnePlus Loop VR page for U.K. and follow the same instructions. The VR headsets will start shipping on June 6.
OnePlus Loop VR offer in India
OnePlus fans in India, however, cannot follow this traditional route. OnePlus is giving out the Loop VR headsets for its fans in India and other select countries for Re. 1 plus shipping charges, which is still a worthy grab. OnePlus India's general manager Vikas Agarwal explained the process for ordering the Loop VR for Re. 1 in India.
"The moment you've all been waiting is finally here. We are setting the stage for the smartphone launch of the year, the OnePlus 3, and Loop VR headset is your passport to getting you there for a front row seat extravaganza," Agarwal said in a statement. "We are deeply attached to our community and that is why, India, along with other global markets will get to witness the same awesome experience as anywhere else. As a thank you to our community, we are also giving away our next-gen Loop VR headsets at just Rs. 1."
OnePlus is conducting two flash sales for its Re. 1-VR headset. Interested folks must register in advance at Amazon India Loop VR page. The Loop VR headsets will be available at 12 noon on June 3 and 7, only on Amazon India app. So make sure you have the Amazon shopping app installed before June 3 and June 7 to place your orders for the Loop VR.
