At least one person died and two others were injured in two consecutive explosions that took place at 11:30 am (IST) in a park in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya located around 100 kms from Tokyo on Sunday.

The cause of the blasts, which took place at a public park and a nearby parking lot, is still not known. The police is investigating whether the two blasts are related.

"The sex and ages of the three are not known yet," a local fire department official told AFP.

A car in the parking lot exploded and burnt two other parked vehicles, following which the police found a burned body inside the park, AFP reported citing the Yomiuri Shimbun daily. A local festival was also called off.
