Onam is one of the auspicious festivals for Keralites as it is celebrated by people of all religions and communities to welcome ancient demon king Mahabali, who comes to pay a visit to his subjects once in a year. The season is also special for the entertainment industry as many big budget movies are scheduled to hit the screens during this time.
This year is no different as many highly anticipated movies are slated to get released at Kerala box office from the second week of September. From Mohanlal's crime thriller "Oppam" to Vineeth Sreenivasan's family entertainer "Oru Muthassi Gadha," movies belonging to different genres will be released to enthral the Kerala audience during the festive season of Onam.
Sept. 8 releases
While "Oppam" marks the reunion of hit actor-director duo Mohanlal and Priyadarshan, the revenge thriller "Oozham" is the reunion project of director Jeethu Joseph and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran after their critically acclaimed thriller "Memories." Both the big-budget entertainers will be locking horns against each other upon their release on Thursday, Sept. 8. Apart from these two movies, Vikram's science fiction "Iru Mugan" will also be released on Sept. 8.
Sept. 9 release
Kunchacko Boban's "Kochaava Paulo Ayyapa Coelho," directed by Sidhartha Siva, is touted to be fun filled family entertainer that narrates the story of two individuals influenced by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho's novel "The Alchemist." The movie, which is the production venture of Udaya Studios after 30 years, marks the debut of Malayalam actor Sudheesh's son Rudraksh in the title role of Ayyappa. "KPAC" is slated to hit the screens on Sept. 9.
Sept. 10 release
The makers of Dileep's comedy entertainer "Welcome to Central Jail" have confirmed that the movie will be released on Sept. 10. The movie stars Vedhika in the female role. The trailer of the Sundar Dass directorial, narrated in the backdrop of Poojapura central jail in Thiruvananthapuram, has garnered positive response on social media.
Sept. 15 release
After superhit movie "Om Shanti Oshaana," director Jude Anthony Joseph is set to entertain the audience with his second outing "Oru Muthassi Gadha" (OMG), which stars debutant Rajini Chandy, playing the role of a grandmother. The movie is expected to be fun filled family entertainer, which also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Lena, Aparna Balamurali and Rajeev Pillai in main roles. "OMG" has been listed as the last release among the Onam movies and is scheduled to hit the screens a day after Thiruvonam on Sept. 15.
