Obi Octopus S520 Octa-Core Smartphone Makes India Debut; Price, Specification Details

New handset start-up company, Obi Mobiles has officially forayed into the Indian market with the launch of Octopus S520.

The new Octopus S520 boasts of eight-core chipset, which can clock a CPU speed up to 1.7GHz and ships with Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS out-of-the-box.

Other notable features of this promising handset include, aluminum back-cover, 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 32GB), 8.0-megapixel camera (with auto-focus, LED flash), 2.0-megapixel snapper on the front and a 1,800 mAh Lithium–Ion battery, which can power the phone for up to 240 minutes of talk-time and close to 180 hours under standby mode.

With the launch of Octopus S520, Obi Mobile becomes the second new company to enter the Indian market this week. Earlier, on 15 July, Chinese popular smartphone maker, Xiaomi officially set foot in the subcontinent and launched three feature-rich smartphones Mi3, Redmi 1S and Redmi Note for dirt-cheap prices.

Both the companies are expected to pose a serious threat to domestic leaders like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava and also the well-established Tier 1 brands like Samsung, Nokia, Sony, Motorola, LG, HTC and others. 

For the uninitiated, Obi Mobile is backed by Inflexionpoint, a company co-founded by John Sculley (Former CEO of Apple Inc.) This new firm is headed by Ajay Sharma in India and has joined hands with e-commerce website- Snapdeal to sell Octopus S520 online for ₹11,990. As of now, there is no word when the new Obi device will be made available in other e-retail websites or brick-and-mortar stores across India.
