Designer Dennis Basso, known for his use of fur, opted for a contemporary feel in his autumn/winter 2016 collection, which he says is inspired by untamed luxury at New York Fashion Week. In the show, held on 16 February, he upped the luxe factor with oversized stones and beading, velvet and furs – a perfect fitting for the freezing temperatures in New York during the week-long shows.
This whole inspiration, fall 2016, was untamed luxury, explained Basso. Its all about beautiful women dressed in dramatic furs and gowns inspired from the winter woods. Shes going through the woods in a very natural way, but with magnificent, gorgeous clothes. She comes upon a huge manor house and she goes in and all the fireplaces are burning, and there are handsome men, and they have this impromptu party in the middle of the woods and theyre beautifully dressed.
The combinations, the furs, are a little bit more wild and we pair them with oversized beading and stones, velvets, and silk faille. So I think all of it translates into something thats very modern but very free – strong women, free in the woods on a moonlit night.
Bassos runway was dotted with jewelled gowns in brocade and rich fur capes and coats.
New York Fashion Week: The Shows, runs until 18 February.
