Nvidia's first gaming console 'Shield' is reportedly set for a market release on 31 July.
The flagship gaming console was initially scheduled to hit retail stores in North America last month, but due to mechanical issue found during the trial process, the launch was postponed.
"We have great news to share with you about NVIDIA SHIELD. The high-performance gaming and entertainment portable is in full production and will begin shipping on July 31", said the American chipset maker in a statement.
"NVIDIA® SHIELDTM is the ultimate gaming and entertainment portable, powered by NVIDIA Tegra 4, the world's fastest mobile processor. Aimed at Android and PC gamers alike, SHIELD puts a complete multimedia theater in the palm of your hands, which include watching movies, listening to music, and more. SHIELD begins shipping in the United States and Canada on July 31. We picked one geography to begin with (North America) and will roll out to the rest of the regions, including India at a later date," said Vishal Dhupar, managing director, NVIDIA South Asia, when asked for a comment to IBTimes India Edition.
Nvidia had unveiled the gaming device Shield in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in early 2013.
Nvidia Shield sports a 5.0-inch multi-touch screen with 1280x720p retinal HD display resolution and runs on the Android Jelly Bean OS powered by the company's in house built Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB flash memory.
Another striking feature of the console is its ability to stream full-fledged PC games via Wi-Fi connectivity. The new hand-held gaming device is expected to hit retail stores of America and Canada with a price tag of $299 (around ₹17,700) in a few days time.
With the launch of the Shield gaming device, the chipset maker has forayed in to the multi-billion dollar gaming industry dominated by the company's longtime component buyers such as Xbox developer Microsoft, PlayStation Vita maker Sony, Nintendo and other major companies.
