The biopic of late legendary actor NTR aka NT Rama Rao is said to have received a whopping offer of Rs 80 crore for its theatrical rights, but actor-cum-producer Nandamuri Balakrishna is putting this deal on hold.
The NTR biopic, which is being made in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi, is one of the most-awaited Indian movies. The movie is yet to complete its shooting, but the hype surrounding it has made many distributions vie hands for its theatrical rights.
According to reports, Sony Pictures, which is one of the leading distributions houses of India, has offered a whopping Rs 80 crore deal. It feels that the NTR biopic has a pan-India appeal as it is directed by Krish of Gabbar Is Back fame and features Vidya Balan and Prakash Raj.
"Sony Pictures has offered Rs 80 crore for the Telugu, Hindi and Tamil rights but Balakrishna has kept it on hold," The Hans India quoted a source close to the film unit.
"They also believe that apart from Balakrishna, the casting of B-Town star Vidya Balan and with Telugu-Hindi filmmaker Krish helming the biopic, the project has attained pan-India appeal. Besides, with popular actor Prakash Raj and others playing key roles, they believe that it will rock the box office across the world," the source added.
Gautamiputra Satakarni has fetched Rs 46.80 crore from the sale of its global theatrical rights and this is the highest amount of any of his films. None of his movies has earned Rs 50 crore in their pre-release business. The offer that has come the way of NTR biopic is the all-time highest amount for Balakrishna.
Nandamuri Balakrishna is playing the role of his late father and is also jointly producing it with Sai Korrapati and Vishnu Induri. "He is determined to bankroll the most-awaited film and for now, he has no plans to hand it over to others," the source concluded.
