Atletico de Kolkata marquee player Helder Postiga may not be fit to participate in the team's seventh game of Indian Super League 2016 on Friday, where they take on NorthEast United FC in Guwahati. It is turning out like the previous season's ISL, where the Portugal hotshot played just one game and couldn't participate any further in the tournament.
Postiga, this season, made two appearances in the Indian football competition before getting sidelined owing to a rib injury. The 34-year-old has missed a host of games this season and this has affected the team's performance, however, the Sourav Ganguly co-owned side will hope the Portugal striker returns fit in the second phase of the ISL 2016 league stage games.
"It is not yet decided whether he will play or not. But he has travelled [to Guwahati for the game]," informed ATK assistant coach Bastob Roy, who will be filling in for Jose Molina, who has a one-match suspension.
"Why would we bring a player who is unfit? We are happy with him and he is not a reason for concern," Roy added.
For NorthEast United FC, there is a major injury worry, meanwhile, as two key players – Romaric and Nico Velez – are unavailable for the match. Goalkeeper TP Rehenesh is also injured, giving some tough time to Nelo Vingada for deciding on the team for this evening.
"Romaric and Velez will not play and some players like Mailson [Alves], Sasha [Aneff] are recovering but are not fit. [TP] Rehenesh the goalkeeper is injured but as I said before the team must be strong as a family," the 63-year-old Portuguese said.
