Finnish company's long rumoured Android smartphone 'Nokia X' aka Normandy is reportedly making its debut in the last week of this month.
American business publication, Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing sources has claimed that Nokia despite being acquired by Microsoft (later in March) is going to launch the company's first ever Android smartphone (touted as Nokia X aka Normandy) at the upcoming international telecommunication trade show MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2014, scheduled to kick-off at Barcelona, Spain on 24 February.
The report comes just a few weeks after Nokia sent out invites to select media outlets to attend the company's conference at MWC's opening day. The invitation did not give away hint or any specifics of the event, leading many to speculate the impending announcement of Nokia X. Now, WSJ's report has further given the impetus to the growing voice that Nokia's Android phone project is indeed real and will take-off later this month.
Word on the street is that Nokia X handset is said to replace the budget Asha series in the emerging markets. Though it is rumored as the android device, Nokia X reportedly runs on tweaked Android OS (without Google Play) integrated with the Finnish company's Here Maps, as well as Microsoft's software support. Many leaked snapshots of Nokia X have be shown to feature 'tile' based interface as we see in the Windows Phone OS.[to view the photos, click here]
As far as hardware is concerned, Nokia X reportedly flaunts a 4.0-inch WVGA (800x480p), 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon (200 series expected) chipset, 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt storage, a 5.0-megapixel main camera and 1500 mAh battery.
