While Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei, Samsung and others are dominating the headlines with their new smartphone releases, but soon you'll be hearing from Nokia. HMD Global has sent out media invites for an event in New Delhi on August 21, and all hints are pointing towards the imminent launch of Nokia 6.1 Plus aka Nokia X6 in India.
We've been hearing a lot about Nokia X6's launch in India, but there hasn't been an official release date. With HMD Global's invites, it is clear that the new smartphone will arrive in India later in two weeks' time. At the event, the company will reveal Nokia X6's price and availability along with its key features, which have already been known from its international release in May.
Nokia 6.1 Plus, the global variant of Nokia X6, will pose a tough challenge to existing smartphones in the sub-Rs 20,000 price range. Xiaomi is launching its Mi A2 in India, which will be a strong competition to the Nokia 6.1 Plus as both phones will be a part of Google's Android One programme to run stock Android.
But the similarities end there. Here's a look at how Nokia 6.1 Plus will woo consumers in India.
Nokia 6.1 Plus aka Nokia X6 features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, a notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It sports dual rear cameras with 16MP RGB (f/2.0) sensor paired with a 5MP monochrome sensor, AI portrait and dual LED flash. On the front is a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and AI selfies for portrait mode.
Under the hood, Nokia 6.1 Plus has a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM, 3,060mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, dual SIM card slots and 4G VoLTE support. Nokia 6.1 Plus gets 64GB onboard storage, expandable up to 400GB via microSD card.
Nokia 6.1 Plus dons a modern look and has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along with Face Unlock support. The handset has a USB Type-C port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Nokia 6.1 Plus is priced at HKD 2,288 in Hong Kong, which roughly translates to Rs 20,100. In China, the Nokia X6 was launched at ¥1,299 (Rs 13,800) for base model with 4GB+32GB, ¥1,499 (Rs 16,000) for 4GB+64GB and ¥1,699 (Rs 18,100) for 6GB+64GB model. With all this, it is safe to assume the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be priced less than Rs 25,000 at best. Stay tuned for updates.
