The hype around HMD Global's Nokia 3310 is so tantalising that some people have put efforts to clone the feature phone even before it reaches consumers' hands. The new Nokia 3310, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in February, is scheduled to go on sale in select markets this month.
Although the phone is yet to hit stores, multiple retailers in Malaysia are reportedly selling counterfeit Nokia 3310 handsets. There seems to be two batches of the cloned units that have been rolled out in the market, all of them looking very much like the new Nokia 3310.
While the first wave of the fake Nokia 3310 units didn't carry the company logo, the second wave of the cloned devices has the Nokia logo above the display, and is apparently more refined then the previous batch.
As pointed out by VTechgraphy, a Chinese technology news website, the Nokia 3310 clones feature a smaller screen compared to the original Nokia 3310. In addition, the fake units also don't run Nokia's Series 30 UI that powers HMD's Nokia 3310.
Nokia 3310 sports a 1200mAh battery, which is expected to offer 22 hours of talktime and a standby time of 30 days. Being a feature phone, Nokia 3310 doesn't have Wi-Fi or 4G support. It is powered by S30+ OS, and it does have the iconic snake game on board.
In addition, the phone also features a 2MP rear camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, and a microSD card support with 16GB onboard storage.
According to multiple European retailers, the Nokia 3310 is likely to make its debut on the market in mid-May. In India, the upcoming phone is expected to be available for purchase around the same time with a rumoured price tag of around Rs. 3,899.
