A woman was attacked with a knife 32 times by her live-in partner in Sector 73 in Noida. The victim is said to be in a critical condition, local police said on Thursday.
The accused, a 28-year old man named Varun Goyal who runs a gym in Ghaziabad, has been arrested, Press Trust of India reported. Goyal is believed to have stabbed the woman 32 times with a kitchen knife and later fled the scene. Neighbours heard the woman's screams and called the police.
By the time the police arrived, they found the victim in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a hospital nearby and later she was shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in Delhi.
The victim had rented the house about a year ago and befriended Goyal around the same time when she started frequenting a gym in Ghaziabad, close to her brother's place. Later, Goyal moved into her house as a live-in partner.
Speaking about what led to the violent stabbing, Dinesh Yadav, station officer of Sector 49 police station area, told the Times of India that "Goyal had a heated argument with the woman regarding their marriage. The woman was pressurising him for marriage and he was not ready."
The victim belonged to Gorakhpur and worked for a private firm in Sector 63, Noida. Till about a year ago, she was living with her brother in Indirapuram area, PTI added.
The police informed the victim's brother about the incident. A complaint has been filed against Goyal.
"A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons) in Sector 49 police station," Yadav was quoted as saying by TOI.
