"The Vampire Diaries" is on a short hiatus and there will not be a new episode of the CW drama Friday, March 25. Season 7 episode 16 will be aired April 1 and it will reveal what Stefan Salvatore's fate is.
The episode is directed by actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon in the series.
The previous episode titled "I Would For You" caught up with the present storyline and fans finally got to know how Alaric and Caroline ended up together. The events that led to Stefan and Caroline's estrangement was also addressed in the episode. The future episodes will see both Caroline and Alaric, who initially decided to stay together because of the twins, being forced to make tough decisions regarding their future, according to showrunner Julie Plec.
"There is no peace right now and after three years of living a relatively normal life, she and Alaric have huge decisions to make about: Do they stay away from these people that used to be their friends, does she go into hiding without him, will they get married, will she ever talk to Stefan again?" Plec told Entertainment Weekly. "There's a lot of great, great conflict coming up as we try to figure out if Stefan is going to be able to make things right with her."
As for the April 1 episode, it is titled "Days of Future Past" and fans will learn more about the Armory, the mysterious organisation that Enzo is part of. The episode will see Enzo being accused of letting Rayna escape the Armory and as he tries to clear his name, the vampire will make an "upsetting discovery," the synopsis for the episode teased.
"Days of Future Past" will also reveal whether Stefan finally agrees to have the mark of the Phoenix sword transferred from him to his brother Damon. Rayna feels Damon is more deserving of the mark, but Stefan's loyalty to his brother will prevent him from agreeing to Rayna's plan.
