Like many other shows, The Exorcist is on a two-week hiatus. Season 1 episode 9 of the horror drama is titled 162 and it will be aired on December 9.
When the show returns, we'll see a new danger threatening to destroy the Rance family. As already revealed in the previous episode, Tomas and Marcus, with Angela's help, managed to get exorcise the demon from Casey's body. But what they did not take into consideration was that the demon's true target was Angela, and towards the end of the episode, the evil force had managed to gain control of Angela. Griefbearers ended with Angela killing Chris.
Angela is once again trapped in the evil that made her childhood a hellish experience. She has once again murdered someone by throwing them down a staircase, and she will make sure the Rances do not leave Chicago, a place that is slowly being taken over by evil forces.
The official synopsis for the upcoming episode reads: "On the eve of Pope Sebastian's visit to Chicago, Marcus and his companions race to avert a potential tragedy. Tomas is offered a life-changing opportunity, but will the sins of the past endanger his future within the church? Meanwhile, as the Rance family attempts to recover from their most recent ordeal, a new problem threatens to tear them apart."
The Exorcist has just a few more episodes to go before its first season ends, and showrunner Jeremy Slater has already charted out his plans for Season 2. Talking to Variety, he said the second instalment will see Marcus and Tomas playing crucial roles in taking the story forward.
"The goal is not to tell an anthology story because I don't think this is 'American Horror Story,'" he told the publication. "The characters who survive this first season and still have a story left to tell, you will absolutely see them again going into Season 2. I think our two priests, Marcus and Tomas, are probably going to be the spine of the show going forward. But the idea is to aggressively tell a new story every single season."
The Exorcist airs Fridays on Fox.
