Nissan Motor India (NMIPL) is working to relaunch the X-Trail SUV during the 2016 Auto Expo, scheduled for February 2016. The third generation of the Nissan SUV was introduced to the global market at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

However on its return to India, the vehicle will not be equipped with the touted 1.6-litre diesel engine. Instead, it will come with a petrol hybrid engine. The powertrain will be a 2.0-litre petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor to develop a combined output of 179bhp. The new X-Trail will also feature Nissan's electronic 4WD system reports AutoCarIndia.

The new X-Trail is globally in its third generation and sees a radical change. The boxy design of the previous generation makes way for a rounded design and incorporates styling cues from the Juke, Murano and the Patrol from the current line-up.

The new X-Trail is based on the Common Module Family (CMF) platform architecture jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. One of the reasons for discontinuing the previous X-Trail was the decline in sales owing to its high price. Nissan is likely to take the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) line this time, which will help it price the SUV in the range of Rs 30-40 lakh. The engine being a hybrid model, Nissan will avail benefit from the Central government's FAME scheme, which offers incentives of up to Rs 29,000 on electric and hybrid vehicles.
