Ian Somerhalder will get into the director's chair on Thursday to direct episode 16 of "The Vampire Diaries" season 6, and he was given a surprise on Wednesday night when he returned home to find a "good luck" cake from Nikki Reed.
The final episode of the season is titled "The Downward Spiral," and it is written by Brian Young and Caroline Dries.
As previously reported, Somerhalder and Reed got engaged last week, and he was not expecting his fiancée to bake him a cake before he makes his directorial debut. Ian was touched by the gesture, and he immediately took to Instagram to express his excitement.
Along with a picture of the delicious-looking cake, Somerhalder wrote: "The best thing to come home to! Wow, thank you you amazing @iamnikkireed -it's true. I start DIRECTING episode 616 of The Vampire Diaries tomorrow!!! I definitely need all the luck I can get! Send me great vibes tomorrow everyone… Also, THANK YOU to all that made this happen: Warner Brothers, The CW,our producers all of you-thank you.Thank you also to the most amazing group of artisans that is the CREW of The Vampire Diaries-you are the UNSUNG HEROES of what people see on their screens! Currently, nothing much is known about the plot of the season finale, but the show's executives have previously teased bloodshed and deaths, hinting that no one was safe on the vampire drama.
"The Vampire Diaries" returns to The CW on Thursday after its midseason break with the episode "Woke Up With a Monster." As per the official synopsis of the episode, Somerhalder's character will try his best to rescue his on-screen girlfriend Elena from Kai's clutches, and the others will dig up ways to overpower the villain.
Caroline and Stefan are expected to take a road trip to find a cure for Sheriff Fobres' cancer, and the Salvatores' grand niece, Sarah, will be introduced in the episode, which will also feature Jeremy, Matt, Tyler, Alaric, Jo and Liv.
