Ahead of their wedding this weekend, Nick Jonas caught has said that he fell fast and hard for fiancée Priyanka Chopra. In fact, Jonas says that the very first time he saw her, he was moved to go down on a knee in public for her.
The wedding is set to take place in India, Chopra's home country and both the bride and groom have started to speak more openly about their romance and the journey so far, reports HuffPost. As for the wedding itself, it promises to be a rather elaborate Indian-styled ceremony that will have Jonas ride into the venue on horseback, a turban on, and sword drawn. Just like any Indian wedding of the region, the ceremonies and celebration will go on for three whole days.
Jonas spoke about his first encounter with Chopra at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, notes the report. Seeing her from across the room, Jonas, at the time 26, seemed to have been instantly smitten by Chopra, 36 at the time. After privately messaging each other online for a while, this meeting was probably the first time they met in person, notes the report. Seeing her from across the floor, he simply couldn't help but fall for her.
"And I put my drink down," Jonas told Vogue, "get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, 'You're real. Where have you been all my life?' Like, loud."
This encounter, although making for a good story, was not actually the proposal that led to their soon to be wedding scheduled for the weekend. After the Oscars party, the two reportedly stayed in touch for over a year, eventually blooming into a strong long-distance relationship, notes the report.
On their first actual date, Chopra says that Jonas was, "too respectful" and describes in detail how the two of them ended up in her apartment where her mother was staying with her at the time.
"We hung out for a couple of hours," she said. Jonas apparently did not go in for the kiss at the time, instead, "He patted my back before he left."
Jonas responded that her mother was in the house, and that's why he did not kiss her. "I thought it was a respectful first night."
Jonas reportedly popped the question this July, on a trip to Crete where Chopra celebrated her birthday. He gave her a Tiffany engagement ring, notes the report.
"I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" Jonas said to Vogue. "No joke — she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence."
"I'm going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections," he said to Priyanka Chopra because she was taking too long to respond.
