Taiwanese technology maker, Asus, popularly known for its Google Nexus tablets, on Friday unveiled a new generation voice-calling tablet, Fonepad 7 at the on-going international electronics trade show IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2013, Germany.
The new tablet flaunts a 7.0-inch IPS backlit WXGA screen with 1280x800p HD display and runs on Android v4.2 Jelly Bean with customizable user-interface and applications.
Inside, Asus Fonepad 7 houses 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and the company says that new tablet would come in three variants - 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage capacities. All the models will come with microSD card slot for memory expansion.
The Asus tablet sports a 5.0-megapixel camera on the rear side with full HD 1920x1080p video-recording capability on the rear side, whereas on the front side, it features 1.2-megapixel capable of recording 720p HD video.
Even though Asus' new tablet, Fonepad 7 boasts of an enviable voice-calling feature, it still falls short before its popular cousin, Nexus 7 II, which flaunts a clearer screen with full HD 1920x1200p resolutions and runs on pure stock Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean OS powered by efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor.
Asus Fonepad 7 is the second-generation device of the original 'Fonepad' tablet, which was launched earlier in the year at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2013 in February.
The company has said that the new tablet would come in two colours - Sapphire Black and Diamond White with optional tri-cover case made from synthetic material protecting both display and the back panel. However, Asus is still keeping the device's price and date of availability details under wraps.
