Hype on Google's upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X has gained momentum with its release date drawing near. It will have to take on the just unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the market though they may have huge difference in terms of pricing.
Google Inc. hasn't revealed the release date of Nexus 6 aka X but Vice President of the search engine giant, Sundar Pichai said at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October. However, a section of the media has claimed that the new device might be unveiled on 31 October.
Interestingly, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which was unveiled on 3 September in Berlin, will also hit stores in October though the exact date is not known yet. It came with several feature upgrades over its predecessor Note 3 but there is no major change.
Google Inc. hasn't revealed any detail of its next-generation smartphone but reports claimed that it will sport a 5.2-inch full HD screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with either 1440x2560 or 1080x1920 pixels. It will run on Android L OS, come packed with 32 GB internal memory and 3GB RAM and house a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery.
The device is expected to be powered by either Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip that clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz, according to a report by G4Games. There is conflicting report on camera feature with some reports claiming that the device will have a 20MP camera with HDR mode, while others suggested that it will come with a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front snapper.
There are reports that the device may have several interesting features, including a curved LCD display and a lightweight, polycarbonate body. In terms of connectivity, it may boast of Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot. TKTechNews claimed that the new device will be priced around €419.99.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560x1440) Super AMOLED display with 515 ppi (pixels density) resolution and screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It comes with 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor /1.9 GHz Octa-Core (1.9GHz Quad + 1.3GHz Quad-Core) processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS.
The phablet has a 16MP rear camera with auto focus and Optical Image Stabilizer, and a 3.7MP front camera with f1.9. It comes with 32 GB internal memory, micro SD slot up to 64GB and 3GB RAM, and houses a Li-ion 3,220mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the device has WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (HT80) MIMO PCIe, GPS / GLONASS / Baidu, NFC, Bluetooth v 4.1 (BLE,ANT+), IR LED (Remote Control), USB2.0, MHL 3.0.
Samsung Electronics hasn't announced the price of its Galaxy Note 4 but online retailer Unlocked Mobiles has gone ahead in opening pre-orders for the device in the UK with a price tag of £599.98 though speculations are doing the rounds that it would only cost around £550.
It is difficult to say which of the two devices has superior feature, as Google hasn't unveiled its smartphone while Samsung has unwrapped its phablet. But going by the reports that have surfaced so far, Galaxy Note 4 may have an upper hand in processor, screen size and battery, and Nexus 6 aka Nexus may have advantage in operating system and camera.
