With the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 being announced, the focus is now on Google's upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, as its release date is not far off. It is almost certain that the search giant will release the much-hyped device in the fourth quarter of 2014 but nobody is sure of the unveiling and launch dates.
The most reliable piece of information on the release of Nexus 6 aka Nexus X till date is the revelation by Google Vice President, Sundar Pichai at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October. Inferse reported that Motorola Shamu aka Nexus 6 would be unveiled on 31 October but it is not confirmed yet.
There are reports that the new device might be announced on 31 October like its predecessor Nexus 5 before releasing it into the market in November. But going by the tradition Google has been following all these years, it looks like Nexus 6 aka Nexus X will be unveiled and announced on the same day.
It may be recalled that the first handset from Nexus line was released in January while the Nexus 3 and 4 were launched in November. However, Nexus 5 came a little early, seeing the light of the day on 31 October. One thing that's common to all the devices from Nexus line is releasing on the day of unveiling. So, it looks like Google will launch its upcoming Nexus 6 aka Nexus X too on the day of unveiling irrespective of whether it happens in October or November.
The Nexus 6 aka Nexus X is expected to have several upgrades over its predecessor. G4Games reported that the device might come with a Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip that clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz. But according to Antutu benchmark listing, the new Nexus handset may sport a 5.2-inch screen with 1440x2560p resolution, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with CPU speed close to 2.5GHz, come packed with 3GB RAM and have 13MP rear camera and 2.1MP front snapper, contradicting other reports that it might come with a 20MP camera.
It is reported that the device may run on Android L and house a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery. There were also reports that Nexus 6 might have several interesting features, including a curved LCD display and a lightweight, polycarbonate body. It may also boast of Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot.
