The release date of Google's much-awaited flagship smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X is drawing near, so it's natural for gadget lovers to draw comparison with the just unveiled Apple iPhone 6. The devices may belong to different leagues with huge price difference but it looks like Google's new device will post a strong challenge to Apple's smartphone if the features are any indication.
Apple Inc. has unwrapped its next-generation device though it is scheduled to hit the stores on 19 September, while Nexus 6 aka Nexus X may see the light of the day by the end of October and hit the stores in November. Vice President of the company had earlier said at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October but he didn't reveal the exact date.
It looks like Nexus 6 aka Nexus X will give both 4.7-inch and iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch) models of iPhone 6 a run for its money going by the features of Google's upcoming device that have been leaked so far and the specification of the already unveiled Apple smartphone.
Apple has huge fan base and so too Nexus series. None of the devices enjoy complete advantage as far as features are concerned. So, there are possibilities of iPhone 6 fans opting for an upgrade rather than switching over to a new device, while Nexus 6 aka Nexus X may find its hold in emerging markets because of its relatively lower price tag. Apple can't ignore Google's device owing to its growing demand in the smartphone market.
Coming to specifications, Nexus 6 aka Nexus X may sport a 5.2-inch screen with 1440x2560p resolution, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with CPU speed close to 2.5GHz, come packed with 3GB RAM and 13MP rear camera and 2.1MP front snapper, according to Antutu benchmark. However, G4Games reported that Google's device might come with a Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip that clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz.
There are also reports that Nexus 6 aka Nexus X may have a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front snapper though not confirmed. It is expected to run on Google's upcoming software Android L and powered by a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery. The device may also come with several interesting features, including a curved LCD display and a lightweight, polycarbonate body. In terms of connectivity, it may have Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot.
On the other hand, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS screen with Retina HD (aka full HD) with 1334 x 750p resolution (326 ppi), and has an 8MP iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels, f/2.2 aperture, True-Tone flash, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, and sapphire crystal lens cover, and 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera with f/2.2 aperture, auto-HDR, and 720p HD video recording. The device is powered by 20-nanometer class based second generation 64-bit A8 chipset and run on iOS v8.0.
Apple's next-generation smartphone comes packed with 16GB/64GB/128GB storage and a battery with talk time up to 14 hours (3G) talk time and 10 days (250 hours) standby time. It has add-ons like fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front- Dual-domain pixels for wider viewing angles, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi and GPS/GLONASS.
The iPhone 6 Plus features are almost identical to that of the iPhone 6 4.7-inch model except for its bigger display and screen resolution - 5.5- inch LED-backlit IPS screen with Retina HD (aka full HD) and 1920x1080p resolution with pixel density of 401 ppi (pixels per inch), and more powerful battery with 24 hours (3G) talk time and standby time close to 16 days (384 hours)
