Speculation on the release date of Google's upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X is rife though the search giant hasn't talked about it till date. In what could be taken as an intentional move to avoid clash with Apple's iPhone 6, Google has reportedly delayed the launch of its new device to November.
It is reported that Google might unveil its Nexus 6 aka Nexus X on 31 October before releasing it a few days later. Vice President of Google Inc. had earlier said at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October without specifying the date.
Traditionally, the search giant releases its Nexus series in October and November. The first Nexus series was launched in January, while the third and fourth was released in November. The Nexus 5 was unveiled on 31 October, 2013 and released on the same day in selected countries. It is reported that the Nexus 6 is also expected to be announced in October but its release could happen only in November and even pushed to December.
An early release would mean that Nexus 6 have to take on iPhone 6 though they belong to different leagues considering their price difference. Apple is expected to unveil two models of iPhone 6 – one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with 5.5-inch – on 9 September before releasing them a few days later.
According to reports that have surfaced so far, the Nexus 6 may sport a 5.2-inch full HD screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with either 1440x2560 or 1080x1920 pixels. G4Games reported that the device might be powered by either Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip that clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz. It may run on Android L OS, come packed with 32 GB internal memory and 3GB RAM and house a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery.
There are conflicting reports on the camera features of the device with some claiming that it might have a 20MP camera with HDR mode while others said that it will house a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front snapper. It is also reported that the device may have several interesting features, including a curved LCD display and a lightweight, polycarbonate body. In terms of connectivity, it may boast of Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot.
