Rumour mills have been spinning for months now with stories about Toyota's upcoming new generation Innova. A lot has been written about the new Innova, which is slated to make its market debut in 2016.
Now, the latest is that Toyota Innova will also be getting automatic transmission in its new avatar and this could either be a five or a six-speed automatic transmission. The latest report of MotorOctane says the upcoming next gen Innova's engine lineup is likely to include 2.4-litre or 2.5-litre diesel engine, and may get five-speed manual and five or six-speed automatic transmission.
Next gen Innova, which is expected to get a global unveiling later this year, will be built on a new platform and is likely to be lighter than the current generation. The model is likely to accommodate changes both outside and inside. As far as the styling is concerned, from what we have seen so far, 2016 Innova is likely to get a new front and rear bumpers with hexagon-shaped front grille with twin-slat, projector headlamps that have LED daytime running lights, wider and larger air dam, and fog lights.
Inside the cabin, Toyota is expected to get features like dual-tone donned interior with big multi-info touchscreen and 3-spoke steering wheel. 2016 Innova is slated to touch the Indian shores by mid-2016 and when launched, the model will rival Honda Mobilio, Chevrolet Enjoy, and Nissan Evalia.
There have also been rumours that Toyota is planning to rename its current generation Innova as "Innova Cross", with minor tweaks in styling and design.
