We thought we had already seen the best of Monique Lhuillier, but we were evidently mistaken. Leaving us in complete awe once again, the Filipino designer debuted her RTW Spring/Summer 2016 collection at the New York Fashion Week on 13 September, 2015.
While the previous days mostly saw designs in chic and subtle colours, Lhuillier made sure everyone sat up and took notice of her creations as she added a blast of colours to the runway.
We did not really have to wait till the end to decide if we loved the collection as the first design itself floored us. The very talented designer sent a model down the runway dressed in an emerald green knee-length dress with delicate black embellishments on the torso area. Paired with magenta heels, the dress looked extremely elegant as well as fun.
We had not even taken out eyes or heads off the piece, and Lhuillier put up a line of models on the stage in extremely classy and amazing designs. Another pretty piece was a knee-length dress with cut-outs on the midriff. A darker shade of magenta made the top and the emerald green skirt was paired with electric blue heels.
The collection also features tops and trousers in similar colours – solid and prints – paired with dainty contrasting heels.
Meanwhile, there are a few ensembles that are made for the red-carpet and we can already see Hollywood A-listers in them. A black off the shoulder dress with slit on the left might have looked very plain, but the white fabric peeking out from the slit adds a different charm to the outfit.
Another one that was equally chic was royal blue full length trousers paired with an electric blue off the shoulder top. This attire took the high-low trend to another level with a shorter and creative front and a train behind.
Lhuillier also played up a lot of white, lace dresses by adding pops up pink, tangerine, blue and greens prints.
While all the pieces were very creative and unique, one of our favourites was a floor length gown with a lacey, blue sleeveless top and a plain white skirt. The outfit looked very elegant and effortless, perfect for an evening soiree.
